4th Grade and 5th Grade

Dear Fourth and Fifth Graders,

The final 10 weeks of school will pass so quickly!  Are you using all the study skills, reading and note taking strategies, proofreading skills, and math skills you learned all year to be successful?  Keep working diligently to make good progress heading into the last couple months of the school year.  You can do this!

Blessings,

May Home Project

Saint Francis de Sales

Diligence – Doing your best and working hard until you are finished

Choose one of the following home projects.  As you work on your project throughout the month, think about Saint Francis de Sales and how he used diligence to strengthen his life and grow closer to God.

  1. Diligence is similar to perseverance. Think about your chores and home responsibilities.  List the final steps or duties of the chores and responsibilities.  Focus on doing the final steps extra thoroughly. How does this display the virtue of diligence following Saint Francis de Sales’ example?
  2. Doing everything as a gift for God is a way to practice diligence. This month say a prayer, such as “God, this is for You” or “All for You, Jesus” before you complete your schoolwork, sports practices, chores, etc.  In your paragraph, explain how this made you feel.  How did it help you be more diligent?  How is this following the example of Saint Francis de Sales?
  3. Sometimes we need extra encouragement to follow through with challenging or difficult tasks. Make up your own motto or cheer to motivate yourself.  Repeat this motto/cheer whenever you start to or are tempted to give up.  In what ways did this help you be diligent?  How is this following Saint Francis de Sales’ example?

Write a complete paragraph explaining your project.  Use a writing plan to help you plan your writing.  Include a clear topic sentence, and describe the project.  The paragraph must include the virtue and its definition.  How did the project demonstrate the virtue of diligence?  How will you continue to practice diligence as you get older?  What did you learn from Saint Francis de Sales’ example that will help you practice diligence?

Please type (size 12 font, double spaced) your home project.  Include the complete heading on the paper.  Use complete sentences and correct grammar and spelling.  Remember to read your paragraph out loud before you are ready to turn it in to make sure the writing is clear to the reader.  Be prepared to give a short oral summary explaining your project to the class on May 29.

Your home project is due May 29.
