Kindergarten

Hello Kindergarten Parents!

I feel so grateful to be your child's Kindergarten teacher this year! My name is Sophia Basil, and this is my first year at St. Mark's School. I'm so excited to begin this journey of learning and growing with your child!

Here on the website I hope to share our Monthly Calendars and General Reminders to keep you updated on how the school year is going! If you have any questions feel free to email me at [email protected]

General Reminders:

Week 11 (Nov 6 - 17):
  • Our fall Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week on Oct 20th and 21st! You should have received a slip of paper in your child’s folder to notify you of you Conference date/time. If you are unsure of your date/time, feel free to reach out via email or call the school office.
  • I want to say thank you to our parents who have volunteered for our class! It has been so helpful to have support. For those of you that have reached out to volunteer, we can figure out the best dates/times for volunteering when we return after Thanksgiving break!

Week 9 (Oct 23 - Nov 3):
  • Please return the green Parent/Teacher Conference Forms by Monday, November 6th! We will be creating the schedule early next week.
  • This month we are practicing the virtue of humility with St. John the Baptist! The Virtues in Practice family activity is due November 15th.

Week 7 (Oct 9 - 20):
  • Volunteering Opportunities! I could use help in the classroom on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 – 10:15am and Thursday afternoons from 2:15 – 3:00pm. Please send me and email if you are interested in helping in this way, and we can schedule a date/time!

Week 5 (Oct 2 - 6):
  • Picture Day is next Wednesday, October 11th! Please send your child to school in their Mass Day Uniform that day.
  • This month we are practicing the virtue of studiousness, through the example of St. Albert the Great! The Virtues in Practice family activity is due October 25th.
  • We are taking a class Field Trip! Please return the completed Field Trip form by October 25th. More information to come soon!

Week 3 (Sept 18 - 22):
  • Please help you child return his/her library book to school on Mondays! We get to go to the library each Monday, so it will be important to have the books from last week returned if they are wanting to check-out a new one.
  • I will be sending your child home with a few papers tomorrow in his/her folder:
    • Math worksheet to do together at home (optional, but encouraged!)
    • Virtues Home Project (required, due 9/27)
    • Required Kindergarten Prayers document so that you can practice together at home before and after meals
  • I hope everyone will give the online Accelerated Reader (AR 360) a try this week! This resource is to support the reading comprehension of your child. If you did not receive your child's login information at Curriculum Night, please let me know.

Week 1 (Sept 4 - 8):
  •  We have snack time and lunch time each day! Make sure your child has an easy-to-eat snack item to eat in the classroom or to bring outside.
  • Students are sharing their All-About-Me bags in class this week! Please help your child pick a few meaningful items to share with the class, that will help us get to know him/her!
  • Your child will bring a folder home each day with a monthly calendar pasted inside. Each day will have a smiley face and/or a note to share with you how the day went. Your child can also use this folder to take papers to and from home! As a reminder, please return the Parent/Family Questionnaires back to me this week.

Thank you for all you do to support your child. God bless!
Sophia Basil
