Spring 2020 - Remote curriculum platform

Salve (Sal-way) Hello,

St. Mark Catholic Classical School remains committed to providing our students and families with continued care and communication from our faculty and staff.  This high quality daily learning - even during the school's physical closure, has not been interrupted but enhanced.  The faculty has been working hard to provide materials specifically designed to be easily accessible for parents and children to use, making learning from home a treasure not a task.

As a reminder, students in need of a laptop for home education please contact Mrs. Keck and one will be provided to your family.  Easy access to staff and faculty have been made available through email and ZOOM meetings.

To help streamline the remote learning transition for families a sample routine "school day" has been provided:

Routine Plan for Home

  • Wake up, dress, and tidy up
  • Morning offering, breakfast, and help clean up
  • Language time: read a story and discuss it. Children read to one another.
  • Number time – math study
  • Outside play, walk, spend 15 minutes working on the yard
  • Beautification time, make something at home more beautiful/chores
  • Art time
  • 12:00 pm pray the Angelus, lunch, and clean up
  • Outside time, nature study, science
  • Quiet time, read, write in a journal, practice penmanship by copying a verse from the bible, memory work, learn a poem or psalm by heart
  • Dinner and clean-up
  • Music
  • Family prayer, Rosary
  • Bedtime

At 9:00 am each day the school community makes contact with each other using the ZOOM website.  The day begins with prayer and pledge meeting for the day.   General announcements, upcoming events, birthday prayers, and questions are included in this morning exchange.  The distance learning plan includes grades Preschool - 8, with a combination of online learning, and learning packets.  Students can drop off and pick up graded assignments Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10:00 – 2:00pm.  Buckets have been placed outside the south west door of the school entrance. The faculty continues to teach through live interactions using Zoom meeting technology.   Under the academic tab on the homepage you will find a list of faculty.  Click on your teacher to find updated assignments for the week.

The whole community continues to attend Mass (virtually) every Friday morning, and attend prayer services, award ceremonies, and assemblies through ZOOM meetings.

Please continue to pray for everyone involved – our students, families, parish community, healthcare workers, people who are sick, people who have passed, and leaders charged with caring for the common good.

Blessings,

Mrs. Kathryn Palmquist-Keck
