Protecting God's Children, Teaching Safety - Empowering God's Children

Dear Parents and Guardians,

By enrolling your child at Saint Mark Catholic Classical School, you agree to work in partnership with the school and abide by the policies adopted by the Archdiocese of Seattle. All of us at Saint Mark Catholic Classical School want you to know that we genuinely value our partnership with you in providing for the safety and care of your children. Faculty and staff at Saint Mark Catholic Classical School know we have been entrusted with the safety of your child/ren and will treat them with respect and dignity.

As part of our overall educational programs and specific to our shared responsibility to educate children and to ensure a safe environment in which all children can learn and grow Saint Mark Catholic Classical School will:

  1. Provide age-appropriate lessons for all grade levels to help students understand personal safety, needs, and rights.
  2. Provide parent materials and information sessions to help you better understand the program.
  3. Annually train faculty and staff to recognize and report issues of abuse and neglect.

The program taught at Saint Mark Catholic Classical School is a program taught throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle.  Protecting God’s Children, Teaching Safety - Empowering God’s Children is a prevention program that teaches students the tools to overcome the advances of someone who intends to harm them.

“Protecting God's Children, Teaching Safety - Empowering God's Children™, is a school-based curriculum. The job of ensuring children's safety is a challenging undertaking. The prevention of child sexual abuse requires more than adult awareness, education, and training about the nature and scope of the problem. We must also give our children the tools they need to overcome the advances of someone who intends to do them harm. The Teaching Safety program is a vehicle through which parents, teachers, catechists, and youth ministers (educators) give children and young people the tools they need to protect themselves from those who might harm them”.

Working together at home and school ensures that our children are safe and are knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities to themselves and to each other, so they can grow and learn free of fear in a safe and supportive environment. I thank you for your support of our efforts and invite you to contact me with any specific questions you may have in this regard.

Blessings,
