Going… Going… Gone!
This document has been put together to help those new to the auction process! Full of information, hints, tips and suggestions, the 2009 Auction Committee hopes it will be helpful to YOU!
What is the auction?
St. Mark Parish hosts a parish-wide auction each year to benefit the school. Proceeds from this event supplement the operating income, which, in turn, keeps tuitions within reach of our families. Although there are other fundraisers, the auction and the annual fund are the most profitable, and require the most involvement from volunteers, businesses, families and friends.
How does it work?
Items are donated to the auction, which are sold to the highest bidder and the proceeds go towards the auction’s goal. This year’s goal is $80,000 profit. Obviously the better the items, the more they will sell for, and the more the school benefits. The biggest thing to remember with this auction is:
This is NOT e-Bay!
On e-bay, or at other auctions (if you’ve attended one),
the point is to get the best deal.
At our auction, the point is to raise money, so be generous! Remember this is
What do I do? Where do I get more information? These questions and more will be answered on the following pages!
What do I do?
There are four main parts of this event that need your assistance; they are:
|
Attend! |
The auction will have 2 nights this year:
|
|
Assist! |
Ø Donate/Procure:
Donate an item yourself or better yet, get a business to donate an item to sell at the auction. The main source of revenue is through the sale of these items, so the better they are, the more money will be made. Donations come from parents, the business community, and your workplace. You can solicit donations (also called procurement) from merchants, bosses, distant relatives, ANYBODY! What is acceptable, and how can I do this? Check the school website under Auction, and Procurement Tools for all the things you need to get and submit donations! St. Mark School families are required to obtain $200.00 worth of items for the auction. The early you start asking for donations, the easier it is to meet your goal. Please make sure you understand all parts of the Procurement Obligation Policy.
Ø Volunteer:
Another way to Assist is to volunteer your time and talent. There are hundreds of jobs to be done to put on this event, and every bit helps. Contact the auction chairs or attend a meeting to see how you can help.

Sustain! |
We can sustain our continuing success with the auction by you and yours getting involved, submitting donations and bidding high the night of the Auction. Think about what you would buy at the auction, how much you would spend to benefit the school, and start setting money aside NOW in your monthly budget to be able to realize that goal on the night of the event.
Talk up the auction to friends and neighbors, business associates and family – if you haven’t been before, talk to someone who has – it is a great time!! You’d be surprised how many people are willing to donated items or services, and some people just love attending auctions. |

Stewardship! |
"Who is a Christian disciple? One who responds to Christ's call, follows Jesus, and shapes his or her life in imitation of Christ's. Who is a Christian steward? One who receives God's gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord. "Genesis tells us that God placed the first human beings in a garden to practice stewardship there - 'to cultivate and care for it' (Gn. 2:15) The world remains a kind of garden (or workshop, as some would prefer to say) entrusted to the care of men and women for God's glory and the service of humankind. In its simplest yet deepest sense, this is Christian stewardship ..."
Stewardship: A
Disciple's Response As part of the St. Mark Parish community, we are called to be stewards by modeling these behaviors to our children. We can steward by helping each other give our most to this Auction. Let our children see how much we value the community we have chosen for them, St. Mark School. |
