Chess Club at St. Mark's!

Did you know we have a fabulous Chess Club at St. Mark School?  We start in October and end in May. We
meet on Tuesdays from 2-3pm in Sullivan Hall. There is a $50 fee which pays for the Instructor. She is an International Women's Grand Master from Leningrad. We definitely need help each week so everyone gets individual attention and enjoys the game. It really gets intense with almost 20 players and just 2 adults to help the beginners and challenge the experienced. Without parental involvement, we are only going to be mediocre at best. Some of our older players want to move on to
Tournaments and we encourage them to do this.

Chess really makes a difference. It improves academic performance by fine tuning memory, logic, and observation skills.
It's a required class in almost 30 countries. Chess as a learning tool, promotes analytical thinking as well as creativity. It helps with focus and self-control. It's a game of concentration and anticipation. The player learns to problem solve by using visualization and 'cause and effect' decision making. Each week we practice good sportsmanship and have fun.

Anyone can play chess!
